We've set up the server with shiny new spam filter, lets see how long this one lasts.

G'Day Alex,
I think you will have to check that shiny new Spam filter as more spam has gotten through, see the Preferences and Getting Started forums.

So it has,

Whilst the flood of spam has eased into more a trickle it is still there. I'm open to anyones suggests on how other projects deal with it.

We've got Askimet set up, that was part of the last upgrade. Its stopped a lot of spam, but some is still sliding through.

PrimeGrid Requires you to have CREDIT to post in all but one forum "Problems and Help"... Have you tried implementing that along the the spam filter?

Don't know what else they have in place at PrimeGrid. You might try sending a PM to Michael Goetz (one of the Project Admins) over there to see what they do.

I'll look in to limiting the posting of new users.

We've Done as suggested new users will only be able to post in the 'getting started forum'. Lets see how the spam goes now.

The best way is to choose a few members who are always able to check the posts at a certain time of day/night who has the mod powers to erase and ban right when they see it.

Would only take 3 people for a 24 hour period to do it.

Using time zones or just the time of day they are always around.

I have done it for big websites like espn myself over the years and I am a late night person who was around for PDT until about 4am my time.

And I am one that never misses a day and have been doing this since the Seti Classic days.......24/7 since 1999

I haven't been a pog member that long but I tend to just do the types of projects that are things I am interested in.......which is why I have been with LHC,Einstein, and T4T since those projects started in 2004-2005.

And I like this one to use some extra CPU's I have since most of the time I just run GPU's for Einstein and the daily T4T tasks with VB.

You probably know by now which members here are ones you can trust.

Good luck

New/more SPAM filtering tools now available for BOINC PROJECT ADMINS:

See THIS post over at the MAIN BOINC forums by Ageless.

For the project administrators who think this is a splendid idea, and who would want to do the same thing, David put the script into Git. It is available for download. Our other new feature of administrators being able to completely delete spammer's posts from their forums, is also available for download.
