Gday All,

As lots of you noticed, we had a fairly major crash over the weekend. The AWS hardware that the POGS server sits on had a complete failure and a we had to kill and rebuild the whole server.

Fortunately with the magic of AWS and a fairly conservative backup scheme this only caused moderate cursing from theSkyNet team.

This also coincided with a whole swathe of new galaxies for you to crunch. With these new galaxies we're also looking at radial flux, which I'm told adds another dimension to the data we're gathering :)

Also anyone that was still using the old master URL: http://ec2-23-23-126-96.compute-1.amazonaws.com/pogs/login_form.php?next_url=home.php
Will need to switch over the new and shiny master url: http://pogs.theskynet.org/pogs/

As always thanks so much to everyone for stick through with us during the down times, we truly value all our amazing volunteers.

Cheers
Alex

Hi Alex
Would this be the reason my tranfers of data to you have been deferred - rescheduled for 4hs time?
Cheers

Yea quite possibly. You'll need to check which master URL you are using.

So are those Galaxies all the new galaxies available or just a set to test the new data being collected.

Would this be the cause of Work Units sticking at 16.666% Completed, have had 6 do this so far , had to abort them. Sorry

Don't know if this will help at all but I had several of mine stalling - or appear to be stalling, anyway - at either 16.667% or 33.333%. I almost aborted them as well but I found that if I suspended the individual tasks, exited Boinc and then restarted Boinc a few minutes later that they would start up again and eventually finish. The only odd thing is that they wouldn't constantly updated percentages, only at 16.667%, 33.333% and 50.000%. Beyond 50.000% it never updated the percentage complete until it had completed the whole task. Go figure.

To the best of my knowledge the new work units shouldn't of had an effect like that but i'll pass it on to Kevin.

We're getting galaxies as fast as we can from Johns Hopkins University and hopefully we'll be able to keep up with demand.

I am making an assumption here, but is the reason why the "pogsbeta" server has also gone down and why I still have a number of work units still trying to upload? Pogsbeta appears still to be down.

It has been around 2 weeks since the servers crashed for both Pogs and PogsBeta. Pogs is back up but PogsBeta is not.
I still have quite a few PogsBeta work units still trying to upload.
Do you just want me to abort them?

Thanks

Hi - just curious if there are still problems with the servers sending out tasks - I haven't received any in a while even though the server status shows 197 tasks to send? Just wondering if I have my preferences set incorrectly or if its part of a larger problem? Thanks for your help. :)

None that i'm aware of. Have you tried detaching and attaching to the project?

As as been said in other threads we will let people know when we need volunteers for the beta server again. At the moment things a chugging along nicely with the main server.

Hi Alex,

Actually everything seems to be fine now. Don't know what you did but whatever it was it worked! :) Thanks!

Thanks Alex, yes I know of the other threads and the letting us volunteers know when you next need us. My query was in relation to the fact I was left holding 49 pogsbeta work units that could not upload as the server went down.
It did not come back up with the main Pogs project server and as I did not hear back about it, I ended up aborting the uploads and resetting the pogsbeta project to get rid of the tasks.
All good.
