It should be irrelevant for the crunchers, who partake in our team, whether they join it on TSN or POGS or both, they should not have to care about it in any way.

I completely agree, This is what i;m aiming towards the challenge lies in integrating all the systems.

Alex

That's the right attitude, challenge, not problem!
3) Questions and Answers : Web site : New Alpha Website Alliances - Not Same As Old Teams? (Message 1582)

ALSO .. Perhaps stop allowing new TEAMS and Alliances to be named exactly like another existing TEAM or Alliance by simply dropping a punctuation. Consider the whole thing from your volunteers' point of view and ease of use, instead of the academic assumption that there is no other way.

There are teams like mine, SETI.Germany, who crunch under the same name in different DC-surroundings, be it Folding, BOINC, TSN or whatever.
Of course we want our established team name to be so in all of these projects to belong to us, and not be stolen by somebody else. We do not have the same founder necessary in all projects, I'm the one in a lot of BOINC projects as well as here and in Folding, but I'm not the "official" founder, or even the admin, of our team.

I know of more teams like ours, and as a member of the association, not the team, of rechenkraft.net, I know that they are even more diverse in their partitioning in DC-projects, and of course want to keep their well established name the same in all DC as well.

And so do users of those teams want it: look up, whether these well established teams exist, join them and that's it. As especially we, as SETI.Germany, are the victims of a malicious troll, who founds teams with similar names (without the dot, with ":" instead of it...) in new projects to lure unsuspecting crunchers away, the founding of a team with the right name in a new project would be very bad.

I looked at changing the code so you could be a leader of multiple alliances however I don't think that really solves the problem. There are only a handful of double ups so it shouldn't be to hard to manage them manually depending on what the founders/leaders would like.

SETI.Germany is a Distributed Computing-wide team, and thus we want to be named the same in all of the DC-projects we partake. Same, even more, is with rechenkraft.net, they are explicitly not a BOINC-only team (I know, because I'm a member of the association, but not the team).

So what I would like for my team is the following:
SETI.Germany, without anything else behind, is the valid name of our team and of our alliance, and should be so in both settings.
It should be irrelevant for the crunchers, who partake in our team, whether they join it on TSN or POGS or both, they should not have to care about it in any way.

Sorry, no edit possible any more, so a new post:

One other thing: Why do you use a different coding for the descriptions in BOINC and TSN? All the Umlauts (ÄÖÜäöü) are shown incorrect in the alliance, while they are fine here.

The problem for my team/alliance is as follows, and I don't know whether other teams/alliances with representations in both systems existed before:
There are now two "valid" incorporations of SETI.Germany in TSN, the one I founded 2 weeks ago, and the one you installed 2 days ago.

The one founded by me is no longer accessible for me as a founder, and given our history with a malicious troll, who founds similar looking teams like ours just to harm us (here just one:SETI Germany, but usually SETI:Germany, SETl.Germany and such as well), I don't like the possibility of a hostile takeover of one of that alliances by that troll, or anybody else.

As I never crunched nereus before I founded that alliance, and never looked up other of the big DC-Teams in alliances before, It's not just us, but other teams are affected as well:
Rechenkraft, Sicituradastra*, SETI.USA, The Planetary Society and probably many more.

What will happen to the now defunct alliances, and the team members, that didn't do BOINC but still want to belong to the right team, and are now stuck in some zombie alliance?
How can I manage my alliance, that one without (Pogs) at the end?

I'm suddenly not any longer the founder/leader of the alliance at TSN, the one I founded on 15th of August, 2013: SETI.Germany

And in my dashboard is some strange alliance history:
All Memberships: Name Join date Leave date credits contributed Alliance Rank SETI.Germany 15th of August, 2013 30th of August, 2013 26,701 265 SETI.Germany (POGS) 4th of August, 2012 4th of August, 2012 0 12 SETI.Germany (POGS) 4th of August, 2012 Still a member 202,592 12

I never left any of those teams, I founded both of them.

How can I get my founder/leader status of the TSN-alliance back?
Why are only 2 members of both entities still in the alliance, while the others have been moved away, probably by some admin?

• For the approx. 40 teams that have a name collision in the existing system, both the alliance and the team will be kept as separate items, the POGS team will be given a suffix. We will the contact the Alliance/Team leaders and ask them if they would like their Alliance/Team converted to one system or the other.

I've created/founded SETI.Germany as an alliance in TSN, as it wasn't there, and the name had to be protected.
It was here of course, as I did the same once I had my account in POGS, before I even became aware of such a thing as alliances and BOINC-wide teams were not imported then.

So, for me both entities are the same, that's SETI.Germany, and of course they should be merged somehow, definitely without an suffix or such. And, if a suffix should be somehow necessary, it has to be in TSN, as BOINC teams are recognised by their names across projects, and if that changes, the team will disintegrate in the cross-project sites.

What do I have to do to achieve this?
9) Questions and Answers : Web site : How are old TSN, TSN-alpha and Pogs connected in regards of teams/alliances and users? (Message 1537)
Posted 22 Aug 2013 by Profile Saenger
As for your members as far as the new system is concerned they've only just 'joined' the alliance so it will only show credit they've received since joining. This will change when I can merge the two systems.

But I had done nothing else in regard of this alliance I founded, but my credits were fully acknowledged, and since my opening post some others have joined as well with all their credits, so another question:

Those 3 users mentioned in my opening post probably joined because I invited them with the "Invite" function in the alliance dashboard, and their then created accounts were not linked or joined with their existing BOINC accounts with the same email address. But, iirc I had not created my new account for this dashboard thingy as well, it was already there and I only had to get my password. Why was it possible to create a new account with the same email address as an existing one without just opening this existing account?

Third:
I tried to use the same description for the alliance as for the BOINC team, but there were no useful layout codes possible, it's just a plain letter wasteland without any structure. Did I just fail to see any method to make the description more readable, or is this the supposed was for it to "work", which is in my opinion very substandard.

I've added the ability to included basic html the same way BOINC does. You should this when I next restart the server tomorrow.

Alex

Thanks for that, it worked.

Posted 18 Aug 2013 by Profile Saenger
Daniel,

My participation in the POGS project and credit that I've earned is still not showing up on the following:

1) Boinc Statistics for the World
2) Boinc All Project Stats
3) The Knights that say "Ni!" (whatever "Ni" means)

It is showing for the others.

Can you look into this please?

Thanks.

He can't, all XML are exported correct, and by now all proper maintained stats sites know of the new location of those XML. Those stats sites that still don't use the current XML are probably clinical dead or at least in vegetative state.

And BTW: The Knights Who Say NI!

I started crunching for TSN only with BOINC, i.e. the Pogs sub-project.
Afaik there was a kind of TSN-classic before, probably this Java-Nereus stuff or such.
Now you have relaunched the web site, and somehow created this new TSN-alpha, where the Boincies and the classics got their account created automagically, at least some of them.

I stumbled over a few problems with this new setup, and I don't know whether they are bugs, intentionally done this way and what to do about it.

First:
The (probably old, existing) alliances with the classic setup for TSN don't fit smooth with the BOINC teams. My BOINC team, SETI.Germany, didn't exist as an alliance until I created one with that name, SETI.Germany in the alpha project. What would have happened, if someone had hijacked our team name for this alliances? Or what could be done to save other big BOINC teams from having to deal with this possible kind of mess?

Second:
After funding it, I invited some of the more ATA-minded crunchers to this "new" alliance. I used the invite function and their BOINC account email addresses, that I could see as the founder of the BOINC team, and three of them joined so far, but...
In my account there is all my crunching history for this project shown, for the other 3 (Hoshione, PoHeDa and Sysadm@Nbg) are only their efforts with the Java client Nereus to see, their huge efforts in BOINC (Hoshi, Sys, PoHeDa) are not mentioned.
Why is this so?
What can be done to show the BOINC credits in their accounts as well?

Third:
I tried to use the same description for the alliance as for the BOINC team, but there were no useful layout codes possible, it's just a plain letter wasteland without any structure. Did I just fail to see any method to make the description more readable, or is this the supposed was for it to "work", which is in my opinion very substandard.

Forth:
How can I get my avatar working over there without using gravatar?

I have tried emailing allprojectstats.com and posting on their forums. Others have tried this as well. They are not responding :(.

Yep, the stats site seems to be in vegetative state. The old stuff works on autopilot, but no maintenance is done at all.

But...

James has finally managed to import and process the XML, and so the numbers in our accounts are fine again.

Hey,
The new alliances are the same as the ones from the website www.theskynet.org, although given the response I'm going to investigate merging the two systems.

Alex

So, what's that supposed to mean?
I'm the founder of SETI.Germany here, and I'm missing the team in this new stuff, these "alliances".
Do I have to create them over there as well?
Is it really "over there", or is this supposed to be merged?
If anyone founds an alliance with an existing teams name, or vice versa, what will happen with the merge?

First failure, I knew I spoke too soon;

My Linux lost out to Win Vista and Win 7 both 64 bit.

I had to wait 'til today to get the first invalidated, and it are two.
I think the problem will not occur further thanks to the implementation of HR, but here are my WUs nevertheless:
17354 (XP-64 and W7-64 beat my Lin-64)
16852 (twice W7-64 beat my Lin-64)
And I'm waiting for this one to get either me or my current wingman to be affected:
87079 (currently W7-64 vs. Lin-64, and "not send")

My nikname is hoarfrost, I am a founder of Crystal Dream team.

I create an account and team before project attach to BOINC-wide teams system.

Before receiving mail with account key I cannot attach to project.

You already had an account, why wasn't it attached to any computer?
Anyway, mail is repaired right now, just ask for another mail

19) Questions and Answers : Web site : Had to reset password (Message 428)
Posted 24 Aug 2012 by Profile Saenger
And (other problem) mail with password reset does not arrive to mailboxes. It's other HUGE problem.

If you were here before the import, you can simply log in by using your account key, that's in your account_projecturl.xml in the data folder of BOINC.

But all founders who weren't here before have no possibility to log in at all, as mail doesn't come and no other account information is possible. You have to have a running, valid mail server on the BOINC server if you import BOINC-wide teams, or you'll get problems with angry team founders.

Like others here, Boinc Tasks is reporting extremely low CPU utilization (both Intel and AMD cpus) and very long estimated time to complete, 15 hours plus. They are Windows 7 OS, BOINC 6.12.34. Is there a problem? Is Bonic Tasks just reporting bad info? What should be the normal run time of a task?

Thanks.

You should compare it with the task manager. If the task manager shows 100%, and BT just 5% or such, BT is looking for the wrong numbers.
